Terms of use
Plain English on purpose. Every promise here is something the site already does.
1. What WHERE is
WHERE is run by Logan Howat in Indianapolis, Indiana. It helps groups plan: pick a time, see what it will cost, split who brings what, and find places to go in Indiana.
By using WHERE you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use it.
You must be 13 or older to use WHERE. Under 13, only with a parent or guardian who uses it with you.
2. Plans and the people on them
- Anyone with a plan’s link can see it and answer it. There are no accounts for planning. Treat a plan’s link like a group text: share it only with the people you mean to.
- What you put on a plan (your first name, your answers, comments, polls, photos, what you’ll bring, the town you’re coming from, dietary needs you pick) is visible to everyone with the link. Don’t put anything on a plan you wouldn’t say in the group chat.
- Only add photos you took or have the right to share, and don’t post photos of people who wouldn’t want them shared with the group.
- The organizer’s link lets them change the plan. Keep it to yourself or a co-organizer.
- Plans are deleted 12 months after their deadline (see privacy).
- Don’t use a plan to harass anyone, to post anything illegal, or to collect other people’s contact details. We can remove a plan, a comment, a photo or a listing that does.
3. Prices and estimates
- WHERE shows three kinds of number, and labels each: official (a figure a government agency or the place itself publishes, with its source and date), our estimate (worked out by us, and said so), and a gap (we don’t have a figure we can stand behind, so we print none).
- Official figures are averages or published rates. Your store, pump, parking lot or ticket window can charge something different, and prices change. Opening hours come from each place’s own page on the date shown.
- Cost splits, carpool shares and settle-up amounts are arithmetic on those numbers. They are a suggestion for a group of friends, not a bill. WHERE never takes, holds or sends money between people.
- Check anything important (hours, a price, whether a place is open) with the place before you go. WHERE is not responsible for a trip that goes wrong because a place changed its hours or prices.
4. Places and venues
- Places in the directory are real, publicly visitable places, added by us from their operators’ own pages, or listed by a business itself. A listing on WHERE is not an endorsement, and we don’t inspect places.
- A self-listed venue is marked “Not yet checked” until we’ve looked at it.
- Plans are never a lead list. A venue never gets the names, numbers or addresses of people on a plan. A venue answering a group request sees only the request and its own reply.
5. Reviews, photos and what you post
- Reviews and Wall photos are public on the place’s page. Only review a place you’ve actually been to, and say what you honestly think.
- No fake or paid reviews. Don’t review your own business or a competitor’s, don’t post reviews for anyone in exchange for money, a discount or a freebie, and don’t post on someone else’s behalf. We hide reviews that look fake, and venues can never pay to have reviews removed or shown first.
- No hate, threats, harassment, sexual content, other people’s personal details, or anything illegal, in a review, a photo, a plan, a comment or a listing. We can hide or remove anything that breaks these terms, without notice.
- What you post stays yours. By posting it you give WHERE a free, non-exclusive permission to show it on the site and in link previews for as long as it’s up. Ask and we’ll take it down.
- Photos must be yours or yours to share. If you think something on WHERE uses your work without permission, tell us through the contact form with a link to it and we’ll look at it and take it down if it’s yours.
- You must be 13 or older to post a review or a photo.
6. Where the information comes from
- Restaurant, bar and many other places’ names, addresses, opening hours and map points come from OpenStreetMap © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License. Hand-checked places come from their operators’ own pages, with the date shown.
- Photos are credited on the photo where the source asks for it (Wikimedia Commons photos carry their author and license).
- “Open now” is worked out from those published hours and only shown when the hours can be read for certain. Holidays, events and changes the place hasn’t published can make it wrong. Check before a big group goes.
- Map and directions buttons open Google Maps or Apple Maps. Those services, their directions and their own information are theirs, under their own terms.
7. For venues: the $15-a-month plan
- Listing a place is free. A place claimed before 1 November 2026 stays free forever. A place claimed after that date is $15 a month. No commission on anything, ever.
- The attribution counter (how many plans named your place, how many people confirmed) counts what happened on WHERE, honestly, and never counts a plan twice. It’s a count, not a guarantee of business.
- If you stop paying, your place stays on WHERE as an ordinary listing: the official record, or your self-listed page. The paid extras switch off (your photos, price a head, replies to group requests, the dashboard). The counter keeps counting.
- You can cancel any time; the plan runs to the end of the month you’ve paid for. Payments are not refunded, including for part of a month.
- What you put on your listing must be true and yours to post: your own photos, your real prices. You give WHERE permission to show it on the site and in link previews while it’s listed.
8. What we promise, and what we don’t
- WHERE is provided as it is. We work hard to keep it accurate and running, but we don’t promise it will always be available, error-free, or that every figure is current.
- To the extent Indiana law allows, WHERE and Logan Howat aren’t liable for indirect losses (a missed event, a wasted trip, money a friend never paid back), and our total liability to anyone is limited to what they paid WHERE in the 12 months before the claim ($0 for people planning, since planning is free).
- Nothing in these terms takes away a right you have under a law that can’t be signed away.
9. Privacy
How we handle what you give us is on the privacy page. In short: no ad trackers, no selling data, no marketing email, and plans are deleted after 12 months.
10. Changes
If these terms change, the new version goes on this page with its date. For a change that affects venues’ paid plan, we’ll tell claimed venues before it takes effect.
11. The law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Indiana. Any dispute goes to the state or federal courts in Marion County, Indiana, unless the law where you live says otherwise. If one part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
12. Contact
Use the contact form. It’s a form, not an email address, and the person who runs WHERE reads it.
